Coronavirus: Adapting a Travel Program to the Outbreak

We take the health and safety of our employees, clients, and partners very seriously. With the recent Coronavirus outbreak taking center stage globally and new travel restrictions being implemented regularly, we continue to monitor and evaluate the business-travel landscape, both for our internal teams and our impacted client travelers. We will continue to provide relevant updates as the situation unfolds.

Below is Gant Travel’s current plan of action for our own team travel in light of recent Corinavirus concerns. If you’d like to understand more about the current pandemic, we recommend visiting the World Health Organization and the CDC  pages for more details on symptoms and further guidance.

Coronavirus: Adapting a travel program to the outbreak

Goal:  Maximum safety of travelers while accomplishing short, mid and long-term business goals.

Actions:

  1. Avoid the international areas where the virus is more common. Source: Coronavirus COVID-19 Global Cases by Johns Hopkins CSSE
  2. Use the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) recommended daily precautions to keep healthy during an influenza season:

                a.  During your trip, follow local guidelines and practice healthy habits (i.e. proper amounts of sleep, hydration and nutrition).
                b.  Pay attention to announcements from the local government in your travel destination as to monitor the local health and security situation.
                c.  Follow any local movement restrictions and prevention recommendations.
                d.  Wash your hands often with soap and running water, especially after coughing or sneezing.
(Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer — containing at least 60% alcohol when soap is not available, and hands are not visibly dirty.)
                e.  Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, and put the used tissue in the trash.
If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve, not your hands.
                f.    Avoid close contact with sick people.

If you are at high risk of respiratory issues or compromised health, consider taking more precautions including discussing the trip with your physician.
